2.0 out of 5 stars Garbage with a Pretty Case, December 13, 2011
This review is from: Gateway ID49C07u - Laptop, Intel Core i3 Processor, 14" Display, 4GB Memory, 500GB Hard Drive, Windows 7 Home Premium, Silver (Personal Computers)
Last year I was looking for an affordable notebook computer for basic tasks such as writing web code, office documents, and occasionally watching Netflix or light gaming (older games like Half-Life, Red Faction, DOSBox games, etc.). I think it's also fair to note that I would consider my computer aptitude to be above average but by no means a superuser. That is, I am usually capable of solving my own problems, creating my own problems through deliberate tinkering (then fixing them), and I'm that friend that everyone has that they ask to fix their computer problems.

I can tell you that it chokes on games, no big deal. I didn't buy it for that. GTA IV will not run, Half-Life 2 chokes through on medium settings and the fan sounding like it's going to fly of and shred everything in it's way, and Red Faction chokes worse than Half-Life 2. I tried Just Cause 2 just for funsies from Steam. HA! It didn't even load. Gaming Rating: 3/10

I only use it for writing and... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Afforadable Computer, May 17, 2011
This review is from: Gateway ID49C07u - Laptop, Intel Core i3 Processor, 14" Display, 4GB Memory, 500GB Hard Drive, Windows 7 Home Premium, Silver (Personal Computers)
It's a great computer for the price. I love the keypad, and the screen is very pretty. I love that it has 4 USB ports, and an HDMI port so I can hook it up to the tv. It plays most of my video games fine, and gets very warm when playing the Sims 3. I haven't had any real problems with it over the past 7 months, but the software it came with from BestBuy was less than helpful, and the touchpad is annoying to use, though using a mouse solves this problem. The only significant problem I've had is the screen not turning on when I open the laptop on occasion. I close and open the screen again, and it works fine, but it is annoying every once in a while.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just ok, October 30, 2011
This review is from: Gateway ID49C07u - Laptop, Intel Core i3 Processor, 14" Display, 4GB Memory, 500GB Hard Drive, Windows 7 Home Premium, Silver (Personal Computers)
I've had this laptop for a little over a year now. It worked really well at first. But the past couple of months or so it has been locking up quite a bit. I have to use the power button to turn it off and then re-boot. A couple of times there has been an error with it not being able to find the desktop information on startup. So, once again, I have to restart the computer. It's not because the memory is used up; there's still 3.68 G's left.
Also, the information on the keypad is hard to see. That could just be my 40ish year old aging eyesight. But the letters are like a dark gray (probably supposed to be black) on a silver background.
So, I'm not real happy with this computer. Put your hard-earned money toward a better machine!
